Banka Srpske AD began operations in July, 2000, under the name Balkan Investment Bank AD Banja Luka. The commercial bank was established by two Lithuanian financial institutions and it was the first fully foreign-owned bank in Bosnia's Serb republic.
In December 2010 Balkan Investment Bank completed the acquisition of a majority stake at local Una banka d.d. expanding its branch network by eleven units in nine cities of the Una-Sana Canton of Bosnia.
In July, 2013, there was a change in the ownership structure of the lender following a successful capital increase to BAM 30million. The new owner of the bank was the Republic of Srpska, through several state-owned funds. Later the same year Balkan Investment Bank AD Banja Luka was renamed to Banka Srpske AD.
At present, Banka Srpske AD operates over 30 branch offices nationwide.
