It was established in the year 2000 by a group of marine professionals specialized in ship-repair and export of marine supplies. Initially, the company started as a shipbuilder with its own shipyard in Chattogram, focusing on building inland vessels and barges. Over time, it grew to become a major shipbuilding company with a world-class shipyard standing over 45 acres of land. The shipyard is equipped with hi-tech and heavy tech machinery and employs around 3500 people, including skilled and semi-skilled laborers. The company has gained recognition worldwide and is currently constructing ocean-going vessels for various countries such as Germany, Denmark, Tanzania, New Zealand, Kenya, the UAE, Norway, India, Equador, and more. Western Marine Shipyard has received certifications for health and safety, environment, and quality, making it the only Integrated Management System certified company in Bangladesh. The company has also received awards for its performance in high-tech industries and its contribution to the export sector in the country. Currently, the shipyard is building more than 39 ships, including deep-sea fishing trawlers, port utility vessels, tugs, container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, and passenger ships.
