Agropolychim, established in 1974, is one of the main producers of phosphoric and nitric fertilizers in southeastern Europe. The company is based in the country's eastern industrial town of Devnya. Its product range includes - nitrogen, phosphorus, and nitrogen-phosphorus fertilizers.
In 1999, Bulgaria sold 63% in Agropolychim for a token price of BGN 1.0 to Acid & Fertilizers. The buyer, which later raised its stake to 97%, pledged to repay the debts of the company and invest some USD 15 million in its upgrade by end-2004. Acid & Fertilizers is controlled by Bulgarian and Belgian shareholders.
