Bulgaria's leading glassware maker BA Glass Bulgaria AD, former Druzhba Glassworks, was initially established in 1931. The company is engaged in the production and sale of glass packaging materials - bottles and jars of different size. Its products are designed for the canned food, wine and beer production industries. BA Glass Bulgaria AD has the capacity to produce 1 billion pieces of glass containers per year.
In July 1998, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold a 51% stake in the glassware maker to Cyprus-registered Bareck Overseas Ltd., which is affiliated to Greece's glass producer Yioula, for USD 20 million. The Greek glass maker, together with two other companies, purchased in January 1997 a 70% stake in another Bulgarian glassware plant Stind for USD 4.05 million via its Cyprus-registered arm Glassinvest. In June 2003, the Greek owner decided to merge Druzhba with its other subsidiary in Bulgaria – the Sofia-based Stind.
