Caproni AD is one of the leading producers of hydraulic elements and systems in Bulgaria. It specializes in the manufacture of hydraulic gear pump, valves, cylinders, aggregates and systems.
The company, based in the southern town of Kazanlak, is a successor of state-owned machine building plant Hidravlica, which was set up in 1960. A 67% stake in Caproni was offered for sale against vouchers under the government's mass privatisation programme in 1996-97. A total of 3.4% of Caproni was kept for covering property claims by former pre-communist owners and 6.6% was offered to employees at a preferential price. In October 1997, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold 23% of the hydraulic systems maker to management-employee buyout Caproni-X for USD 1.72 million.
