Solvay Sodi AD (Bulgaria)

One of Europe's biggest soda ash producers Solvay Sodi, which produces between 1.0 million and 1.5 million tonnes of soda ash annually, is located in the Black Sea town of Devnya.
In April 1997, Bulgaria sold 60% in Sodi Devnya for USD 160 million to Vienna-registered consortium Solvay Sisecam, which comprised the Belgian chemicals and drugs group Solvay, Turkey's glass group Sisecam and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Solvay and Sisecam had agreed to share the soda ash production of the Bulgarian plant on a 75%-25% basis, both partners marketing their own share of soda ash freely and independently. The EBRD provided USD 40 million for the privatisation of the company.
In 2000, Solvay Sodi acquired controlling stakes in its raw material and energy suppliers Deven, Provadsol and the limestone quarry Devnya Limestone. The company invested BGN 300 million from 2007 to 2010 and increased its annual production capacity from 1.2 to 1.5 million tonnes.
