Stolichen Elektrotransport EAD manages the tram and trolley-bus public transport in Sofia. The company was set up in 1998 following the merger of three companies – Tramvaen transport, Troleibusen tranasport and Transenergo.
Currently Stolichen Elektrotransport operates five garages – Banishora, Krasna Polyana and Iskar for trams, and Iskar and Nadezhda for trolley-buses.
The company carries more than 184 million passengers a year. Its electricity-driven vehicles traveled a total 17,524,978 km in 2006.
As of January 2007, Stolichen Elektrotransport’s fleet consisted of 176 trams and 102 trolley-buses servicing 17 and nine routes, respectively.
In November 2008, municipal tram repair firm Tramkar merged into Sofia Public Electrical Transport Company.
