Bulgarian winery Vinex Preslav, which was established in 1948, is involved in purchasing grapes and other fruit as well as in producing and bottling wine and brandy for the domestic market and abroad. The company, based in the northeastern town of Veliki Preslav, focuses on production of high-quality white wines and wine brandy. It exports almost half of its output to Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Greece and other EU members.
In January 2000, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold 77% of the wine firm to local holding company Sveta Sofia for USD 1.65 million. In September 2003, local Strandzha chateau Rossenovo wine cellar acquired the majority stake in Vinex Preslav from the Sveta Sofia holding for an undisclosed sum. Strandzha Chateau is controlled by five local businessmen and three legal entities.
