Hispamar Satelites S.A. is a telecommunications company located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was established in 2002 as a result of the investment from two prominent companies in the telecommunications sector. The Spanish group HISPASAT, a leading global satellite operator and a leader in the distribution of content in Portuguese and Spanish, holds 80% of the shares. The Brazilian company Oi, a pioneer in providing convergent services in Brazil, holds the remaining 20%. Hispamar's strong infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro includes an office, a satellite control center, and a teleport located in Guaratiba, which involved an investment of over R$1 billion. The company launched its operations in 2004 with the satellite Amazonas 1, which marked a significant technological advancement in satellite communications. It was used for enterprise services and broadband, increasing competition in the satellite market. In 2009, the satellite Amazonas 2 was launched to meet the growing demand in the region. Over the past 10 years, Hispamar has become a successful reference in the satellite telecommunications sector, serving the needs of the Brazilian and Pan-American markets. The company has pioneered live corporate TV and distance learning via satellite, indirectly reaching over 500,000 end users. Through technical and commercial consulting, Hispamar has helped shape new business models and driven these markets in Brazil. Hispamar has also collaborated with its clients on projects that contribute to Brazil's digital and social inclusion. The company has participated in the Gesac program, a federal government initiative for internet access and telemedicine in remote and digitally excluded communities. It also provides satellite capacity for the PGMU, the General Plan for Goals for the Universalization of fixed telephony, for major telecommunications companies in Brazil. Operating in over 30 countries, Hispamar has secured contracts with telecommunications and DTH (Direct-to-Home) companies in Latin America. It has been chosen by the US government as a satellite communication provider to support border monitoring and restore communications in certain natural disaster situations. In recent years, the company has focused on providing IP satellite services in Latin America, accounting for over 40% of the total revenue of the HISPASAT Group.
