Telecomunicações Brasileiras SA - Telebrás - was incorporated on November 9, 1972. The Extraordinary General Meeting of May 22, 1998 approved the partial spin TELEBRÁS, resulting in the formation of 12 (twelve) new holding companies that were privatized in July 29, 1998, no longer staying with the task of controlling the TELEBRÁS System. Telebras is up to implements the private communication network of the federal public administration, public policy support and support broadband, and provide infrastructure and support networks to telecommunications services provided by private companies, states, Federal District, municipalities and without profits.
