Camanchaca began operations in Chile in 1965, with an activity focused on fishing and processing of shrimp and prawns. In 1980, a change of direction in the company resulted in a strategy of diversification towards other products of the sea, including aquaculture, which promoted uniform and constant growth. Camanchaca currently participates in the extractive fishing business in the north and south of Chile, in the aquaculture of Atlantic Salmon and in the cultivation of Mejillones and Abalones. Its operations are developed from the north of Chile, in Iquique to the south of the country, along 6,640 kilometers of coast. This growth has taken it to a place of privilege in the international markets, exporting to more than 50 countries. In the fishing area, Camanchaca has been increasingly targeting human consumption, including frozen and preserved horse mackerel, langoustines and Omega 3 rich oils, as well as the production of fish flour. In the salmon area, the Company became the first salmon producer in the world to obtain four stars for Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, provided by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA). This standard is highly valued by consumers, retailers and food service operators around the world, and ensures that salmon production is done in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, and is a safe product for human consumption. In addition, Camanchaca is a founding member of the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), an alliance that represents approximately 50% of the world's farmed salmon production and recognizes the role of salmon farming in order to sustainably satisfy the growing demand for healthy proteins in the world in the following decades, making significant progress in the industry. In order to establish a close presence in the strategic markets in which its products are marketed, the Company has established commercial offices or representations in the United States, Japan, Europe and more recently in Central America / Caribbean and China / Southeast Asia; in this last market developing the New World Currents brand along with other Chilean producers; in addition to its corporate offices in Santiago de Chile.
