Empresa Portuaria Austral is a company located in Punta Arenas, Chile. It was incorporated on December 19, 1997, through Law 19.542, as part of the modernization efforts of the state in the port system. The company began its operations on August 1, 1998, with the objective of managing, operating, developing, and conserving three port facilities: Arturo Prat and José de los Santos Mardones in Punta Arenas, and the Ferry Terminal in Puerto Natales. The company's establishment was necessary to support activities such as offshore oil exploration, industrial fishing, scientific research in Antarctica, and the attraction of Patagonian nature as a destination for tourist cruises.
