Soprocal Calerías e Industrias S.A. was founded in 1940 by the brothers Jorge and Alfonso Rozas Ossa. They started operations with a small plant in the city of Cartagena, then relocated to Talcahuano. In 1962, thanks to a CORFO credit, Soprocal was able to construct its main plant in the city of Melipilla. The construction and operations in Melipilla began in the first half of 1964, leading to the cessation of activities in Cartagena and the subsequent sale of the Talcahuano plant for other industrial purposes.
