The Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana is a state higher education institution in Chile. It was founded in 1993 and is accredited at an advanced level for a period of four years in the areas of Institutional Management, Undergraduate Teaching, and Community Engagement. The UTEM is a member of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) and the Consortium of State Universities of Chile (CUECH), prestigious entities that bring together public and traditional higher education institutions in the country. It is also an active member of the Union of Latin American and Caribbean Universities (UDUAL), an international organization that promotes the improvement of its associated institutions through the fostering of relationships between Latin American universities and cultural international institutions and organizations. The UTEM offers a total of 27 undergraduate programs and a Bachelor's Program in Engineering Sciences, with admission through the National University Entrance Exam (PDT) and Direct Access, in the fields of Administration and Economics, Design and Architecture, Construction, and Sciences and Engineering. It has three campuses in the Metropolitan Region with over 72,000 square meters of construction, including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, cafeterias, and event halls (SIES 2018). The total enrollment is over 8,500 students, with more than 5,000 of them studying with the benefit of tuition-free education (SIGE-UTEM 2019).
