Banco Comercial AV Villas S.A. had its origins in the Corporacion de Ahorro y Vivienda Las Villas (Savings and Housing Corporation Las Villas), an entity created in 1972, specialized and with a long history in the financing of the construction sector. In 1998 the bank was controlled by Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores S.A., which is the largest and most important financial group in the country, made up of Banco AV Villas; Banco de Occidente; Banco de Bogota; Sociedad Administradora de Pensiones y Cesantias; Porvenir S.A. and Banco Popular S.A. Banco AV Villas is a commercial bank and its corporate purpose is the execution of all transactions legally permitted to commercial banks, subject to the requirements, restrictions and limitations imposed by the laws. Its majority shareholder is Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores S.A.
