The Cooperative University of Colombia is dedicated to providing university services in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in different cities of the country. The institutional trajectory of the university dates back to 1958, when a group of cooperativists, led by the brothers Henry and Rymel Serrano Uribe together with Carlos Uribe Garzón, decided to help with the strengthening of the solidarity economy and in particular the cooperativism. As a result, the Moses Michael Coady Institute was created, honoring the name of the Canadian cooperative priest, pioneer of cooperative education in his country. Later, in 1961, the M. M. Coady Institute became the Institute of Social Economy and Cooperativism - INDESCO. Later on, the National Superintendence of Cooperatives, through Resolution 0501 of 1974, recognizes the legal status of the entity called Universidad Cooperativa -INDESCO.
