Empresa Electrica Regional Centro Sur C.A. is an electricity company located in Cuenca, Ecuador. It was incorporated in September 1950 as "Empresa Electrica Miraflores S.A." and has since evolved with significant changes, including the establishment of Substations #3 in Monay and #4 in the Visorrey sector. In 1979, the company changed its name to "Empresa Electrica Regional Centro Sur C.A." and expanded its service area to cover most of the provinces of Azuay and Cañar. In 1987, the company was entrusted with the administration of the Morona Santiago Electrical System by INECEL. In 1996, a new legal framework for the sector was implemented, leading to the segmentation of companies into Generation, Transmission, and Distribution-Commercialization. In 1999, CENTROSUR underwent significant organizational and social changes, resulting in the formation of Electro Generadora del Austro S.A. and CENTROSUR focusing on Distribution and Commercialization. In 2008, CENTROSUR expanded its services to include data transmission, internet, and other value-added services. The company aims to bridge the digital divide and contribute to the region and country's development. Their goal for 2025 is to be recognized in Latin America for their excellence in providing electricity and general public lighting services, as well as customer satisfaction.
