The Company develops, owns, and operates casino gaming and resort facilities in Asia and Europe.
It owns and operates City of Dreams, an integrated casino resort that has approximately 511 gaming tables and 572 gaming machines; approximately 780 rooms, and suites and villas; approximately 40 restaurants and bars, and 170 retail outlets; and health and fitness clubs, three swimming pools, spa and salons, and banquet and meeting facilities. The company also operates Altira Macau, a casino hotel, which has approximately 101 gaming tables and 121 gaming machines; 220 hotel rooms; various dining and casual restaurants, and recreation and leisure facilities; and various non-gaming amenities comprising a spa, gymnasium, outdoor garden podium, and sky terrace lounge. In addition, it operates Studio City, a cinematically themed integrated resort with gaming facilities, hotel, entertainment, retail, and food and beverage outlets that comprises 277 gaming tables and 700 gaming machines in Cotai, Macau. Further, the company owns and operates seven Mocha Clubs with 935 gaming machines, as well as Grand Dragon casino in Taipa Island, Macau. Additionally, it operates and manages City of Dreams Manila, an integrated resort in the Entertainment City complex in Manila; a casino in Limassol and three satellite casinos in Nicosia, Ayia Napa, and Paphos in Cyprus.
2004 - The Company (formerly named Melco PBL Holdings Limited and known as the “Company” hereafter) was incorporated under the laws of the Cayman Islands on December 17. The company was formerly known as Melco PBL Entertainment (Macau) Limited and changed its name to Melco Crown Entertainment Limited in May 2008.
2006 - The Company s ADSs, each representing three ordinary shares, have been listed on the Nasdaq since December 19. The Company sr ADSs are traded under the symbol “MPEL”.
2008 - In May, the Company changed their name from Melco PBL Entertainment (Macau) Limited to Melco Crown Entertainment Limited.
2011 - On July 27, the Company acquired a 60 equity interest in SCI, the developer of Studio City. Studio City is a large-scale cinematically-themed integrated entertainment, retail and gaming resort developed in Macau.
2012 - On December 19, the Company completed the acquisition of a majority interest in the issued share capital of MRP, a company listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange.
2015 - The listing of the Shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange will be withdrawn on Friday, July 3.
2017 - In February , the Melco Acquisition closed, upon which Melco International became its sole majority shareholder.
2017 - In March, its name change from Melco Crown Entertainment Limited to Melco Resorts Entertainment Limited became effective.
2017 - In April , Its Nasdaq ticker symbol changed from “MPEL” to “MLCO.”
2018 - In December, the Comapny completed the voluntary tender offer to acquire a total of 1,338,477,668 common shares of MRP from other minority shareholders of MRP and, together with an additional 107,475,300 shares acquired on or after December 6, 2018.
2019 - In June , the Company acquired an approximately 9.99 ownership interest in Crown Resorts and in April 2020, it sold the entire equity interest to a third party and ceased to be a shareholder of Crown Resorts.
2019 - On July 31, the Company acquired a 75 equity interest in ICR Cyprus, whose subsidiaries are currently operating a temporary casino in Limassol and three satellite casinos in Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Paphos, as well as developing City of Dreams Mediterranean.
2020 - On December 18, the HFCAA was enacted. In essence, the HFCAA requires the SEC to prohibit foreign companies from listing securities on U.S. securities exchanges if a company retains a foreign accounting firm that cannot be inspected by the PCAOB for three consecutive years, beginning in 2021.
