Zagrebacka banka began operations in 1914 as the City Savings Bank. It changed its name into Zagreb City Savings Bank in 1946. In the 1960s it was incorporated into the Zagreb Municipal Bank which was soon renamed to Credit Bank and became part of the Commercial Bank Association in Zagreb. In the early 1970s, the founders of the Zagreb Credit Bank and Jugobank merged into Zagrebacka Banka. In 1989, Zagrebacka banka became the first bank in Yugoslavia to go through the privatization process and became a joint stock company. Its shares were listed on the Zagreb Stock Exchange in 1995 and on the London Stock Exchange in 1996. In March 2002, Zagrebacka banka became a member of Italy-based UniCredit Group, which operates on 22 markets with around 10,000 subsidiaries and over 40 million customers. Zagrebacka banka operates a network of 130 branches serving some 80,000 corporate customers and over 1.1 million private customers.
