DANONE Tejtermék Gyártó és Forgalmazó Kft, the 100%-owned Hungarian subsidiary of French food product manufacturer Danone, was created in January 1996 via the merger of the Budapest based plant of Budapesti Tejipari Vállalat (acquired in 1994 by Danone) and the Marcali-based plant of Marcali Tejdesszert Kft (taken over the following year). The company offers a wide range of dairy products: sour cream, kephir, plain and fruit-flavoured yogurts, yogurt drinks, turo rudi, puddings and desserts. In Hungary the company sells both the internationally well-known and the locally popular brands of the French parent firm. In 2008 Danone Hungary was the largest market player in Hungary with a 39.2% share of the total USD 1.4bn Hungarian dairy products market.
