Intreprinderea Municipala Regia Transport Electric is a company located in Chisinau, Moldova. The company has a long history in the city, as it started with the introduction of the first public transportation system in 1889. The initial contract with a Belgian transport company resulted in the acquisition of several horse-drawn trams. These trams quickly became a popular mode of transportation for students and citizens with modest incomes. Wealthier residents continued to use carriages and coaches. In 1913, the company transitioned from horse-drawn trams to electric trams. Then, on October 12, 1949, the first six trolleybuses of the MTB-82 model were put into operation on the city's main boulevard. The trolleybuses served a route from Gospitalinaia Street (now Toma Ciorbă Street) to Sve-cinaia Street (now Gagarin Boulevard). These trolleybuses, manufactured in Moscow, had a capacity of 60 passengers each and transported approximately 24,000 passengers daily. Over the years, the trolleybus network expanded, connecting various parts of the city, including the railway station, the Medical University, Valea Morilor, and Puşkin Street. One of the original trolleybuses is now permanently displayed in the current trolleybus park. Intreprinderea Municipala Regia Transport Electric has played a significant role in providing affordable and democratic urban transportation in Chisinau.
