Telefonos de Mexico S.A.B. de C.V.- (Telmex) - is a telecommunications company that provides communication services, domestic and international, long distance, data and video transmission, Internet access and integrated telecommunications solutions. It has a network of long distance transmission comprising nearly 75,000 kilometers of optical fiber that connects the main cities in Mexico. It also has operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and the United States. On 23 December 1947 it was established “Telefonos de Mexico” by acquiring the assets, properties and concessions of “Telefonos Ericsson, S.A”. In 1950, “Telefonos de Mexico” acquired the assets and concessions of the Mexican telephone and telegraph company and consolidated its services. In 1972, an agreement was signed between the Federal Government and Telefonos de Mexico, through which the firm became a majority stake. Finally in August 1990, the main concession of Telmex to operate a public network to provide basic telephone services is modified and in December 1990, the federal government sells Telmex´s shares to a group led by Grupo Carso, S.A de C.V, SBC International, Inc., a subsidiary of SBC Communications inc., Financière Internationale and France Telecom, a subsidiary of France Télécom. In April 1996, Carso transferred its shares in Telmex to Carso Global Telecom, S.A de C.V. In 2010, America Movil acquired 59.5% of the shares of Telmex.
