Consorcio Transmantaro S.A. (CMT) was established in January 1998, after winning the construction and operation of the Electricity Transmission System Mantaro-Socabaya. The line began its commercial operations on October 8th, 2000 and allowed the creation of the Electrical System National Grid (SEIN) to interconnect the systems used to be North and South. Its 1.207 km circuit passing through the departments of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurimac and Arequipa. CTM shareholders are long-time Colombian groups in the business of electricity transmission and are also owners of Red de Energia del Peru (REP), the main operator transmission lines in the country.
At present, REP is responsible for management services, provision of materials and availability of assets of CTM. Transmantaro control is in the hands of the Colombian group ISA. The Colombian electric BSE also has a stake in the company.
