Satu Mare Airport was set up in Octomber 1936 by a Royal Decree. In 1940, after the occupation of Horty, the activity is closed. In 1946 the airport reopens for 3 years and, then, closed again for another 9 years. It reopens When TAROM was founded.
In 1996 the airport is declared open for international traffic. Since June 1997, The International Airport Satu Mare is a member of The International Airports Council, based in Geneva.
1 Km distance from the airport there is the Samus Aeroclub founded in 1983. Starting with 1984, gliding courses are organized and in 1986, parachute courses.
