Aerostar SA was founded in 1953 initially for repairing the military aircrafts of the Romanian Air Force. Since 1953 it name changed successively from U.R.A. to I.R.Av., I.Av. and eventually in Aerostar. The Ministry of National Defence was its main client along time. The company provided the repair and maintenance of all types of aircrafts belonging to the Romanian army. Aerostar manufactured the IAR-93 prototype, the first fight aircraft manufactured after WW II. Since February 2000, Aerostar is a private company. Since February 1998 is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange Market.
