Gedeon Richter Romania, member of the largest Hungarian pharmaceutical manufacturer, has started activity in Romania in 1998, with the acquisition Armedica factory in Targu - Mures. In September 2003, the Hungarian group merged with its subsidiary, forming Gedeon Richter Romania SA. In Romania, the Gedeon Richter group develop an integrated process: development and production of drugs, distribution and retail, all these through three major components of the group - Gedeon Richter România SA, Pharmafarm and Gedeon Richter Farmacia SA. In October 2007, Gedeon Richter took over the drug distribution chain Pharmafarm. In August 2010, the company had a total of 120 pharmacies.
