SOCAR Romania is the representative of the oil and natural gas company owned by the state of Azerbaijan, one of the best ranked oil companies in the world. Romania is linked at this point to Azerbaijan and SOCAR through two major energy projects: Nabucco and AGRI, designed to reduce the Romanian dependency towards the import of natural gas from Russia. SOCAR Petroleum S.A. is a joint stock company, with mixt romanian-azeri capital, and it is part of the international group of SOCAR. SOCAR Petroleum, the ex-Romtranspetrol, owns today a network of 13 gas stations in Iasi, Botosani, Suceava and Neamt counties, being one of the most important players in the fuel distributing market from north-eastern Romania. The main business, which has constantly accounted for over 90% of the turnover, is the retail sale of petroleum products through petrol stations. The remaining 10% represent auto transport services with 20 own tankers and rental income from property (property situated in the towns of Botosani and Vatra Dornei).
