Zilinska Teplarenska, a.s. is a company located in Zilina, Slovakia. It was established in 1967 as Tepláreň Žilina, with the aim of providing a central heat source for the city. The company initially operated two high-pressure granulation boilers and one back-pressure turbine, using brown coal dust from the North Bohemian mines as fuel. Over time, a dual-fuel base was introduced, utilizing both coal and gas. To accommodate the expansion of production capacities, a chimney with a height of 192 meters was constructed. In 2009, Zilinska Teplarenska became the first heat plant in Slovakia to implement a desulfurization system, making it the most environmentally friendly plant in the country. In 2012, a heat accumulator was put into operation, along with the installation of a back-pressure turbine, increasing electricity production. In 2015, the boilers underwent denitrification to reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides resulting from coal combustion.
