Zvolenska Teplarenska, a.s. is a company located in Zvolen, Slovakia. It was established in 1969 and is one of the six cities in Slovakia with a heat and power generation concept. The company's main focus is on the production of heat and electricity through cogeneration. The technological scheme of the company initially consisted of grate boilers and turbogenerators, which were later expanded to include boilers for heating oil and a backpressure turbogenerator. In addition, a 120-meter chimney was built. However, the company faced challenges in meeting the emission limits set by the EU since 2008. To address this issue, in 2005, Zvolenska Teplarenska applied for a National Fund for Environmental Protection (NFP) to implement a project for the ecological transformation of the heat source, utilizing biomass co-firing. As part of the project, the installed capacities of the equipment and the fuel base of the heat source were changed. The company used low-sulfur brown coal, wood chips, and natural gas as fuels.
