Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Limited was set up by the local gentry of Taoyuan county, Xinzhu County and Miaosu County, with its original name Xinzhu District Savings Association Co.,Ltd.and specializing in Association business. In 1965, General Manager Zhan Shaohua (now the honorary Chairman) put forward an important idea - The company staff being a family share the company’s profits. Since then, the whole company was united and spirited, ensuring the stable profits growth. In 1975, owing to the execution of New Banking Law which regulates that all savings associations be grouped into the banking system and changed into Small & Mid Enterprise Bank, the association was changed officially into Xinzhu District Small & Mid Enterprise Bank in 1978, after 3 years of striving. In 1980, the bank introduced the section-dividing development system, all the employees being responsible for certain section, visiting every client in the section, and establishing the trust and cooperative relationship between the bank and the clients. In 1983, the bank’s stocks went public, being the first listed private bank in Taiwan. In 1989, the bank realized the on-line office within the whole bank, and now all transactions have been computerized. In 1993, the bank published its CIS, and won the Silver Medal in the first Finest Brand Design Match held by the Taiwan Ministry of Economy in 1984. in 1999, the bank changed to Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Limited, getting rid of the limitation to certain client groups and in certain regions.
