Union Bank of Taiwan (UBOT) was founded in spring of 1989 by a group of Taipei and Kaohsiung banking visionaries - Lin Rong-San, Lee Tswen-Ching, and Lee Yu-Chuan. The three collaborated the efforts of banking experts, financial educators, and entrepreneurs in the shared mission to establish a financial institution that endorses government policy of financial industry modernization, liberalization, and globalization. With the core of our financial services incorporating the four business morale of Enthusiasm, Soundness, Efficiency, and Innovation, Union Bank of Taiwan is confident and persistent in its endeavor toward banking excellence. Since official launch (approval with granting of licenses from government regulatory bodies) in 1991, Union Bank of Taiwan has been continuously expanding its scope of business and branch network. As of the end of 2001, our domestic business units have reached 39, with ATMs and Automated Service Centers widely setup in close proximity of each business unit to provide a geographic and time extension of our services. In September 1995, Union Bank of Taiwan began its listing on Over-the-Counter Securities Exchange (OTC) and was subsequently transferred in June 1998 to list on Taiwan Stock Exchange (TAIEX), recognizing UBOT as a sound and credible publicly owned company. During December 1999 and October 2001, we introduced Regional Default Loan Pricing Centers and Real Estate Appraisal Centers to streamline the overall flow of our business and operations so as to raise our banking expertise and operating efficiencies. Moreover, to pace toward globalization, we had established Ho Chi Minh Representative Office in Vietnam in February 1998 and Hong Kong Representative Office in Hong Kong in August 1999, offering our clients a global network of financial services and boosting our international presence.
