Delhaize Serbia, former Delta Maxi, was established in 2004 as a part of Serbian retailer Delta M Group. The company operates the Maxi and Maxi Mini retail chains. Maxi supermarkets usually span over between 400 and 2,000 square meters and offer an assortment of 5,000 - 12,000 items. The retailer also offers products under its own brands - Delhaize, 365, bio, care, home, Tom&Co, Taste of Inspirations and Od nase zemlje.
In July 2007, Delta Maxi acquired the retail operations of Bosnian Serb trading company Tropic for EUR 35 million ($48.2 million). Delta Maxi bought 85% in Bulgarian retail chain Piccadilly for an undisclosed sum in September 2007. The acquisition was finalized in September 2009. In end-2010, Delta Maxi opened its first Tempo hypermarkets in Montenegro and Bulgaria.
In mid-2011, Belgian retailer Delhaize acquired a 100% stake in Delta Maxi for EUR 932.5 million. After the deal was completed the company was renamed into Delhaize Serbia. In 2014, the company opened a new distribution centre that serves the operations of Maxi and Maxi Shop&Go stores.
