Mining company Rudnik Kovin was established in 2005 when it span off from local Elektroprivreda Srbije. It operates the Kovin mine, which is located in southern Banat. The firm is primarily engaged in mining lignite coal. The research works in the area of the mine began in 1976 and the coal excavation started in 1995.
